Today when I was leaving the bank parking lot, a woman driving a car zipped in back of me, almost hitting my truck. Then she parked next to me, got out of her car, and walked into the side of my truck (which fortunately wasn't moving because I was still trying to get over being almost hit). She just kind of bounced off and went on walking. She was on her phone. Completely oblivious to her surroundings. I waited until she got on the sidewalk and then backed up to be close to her and laid on the horn. I am not a good person. But it made me feel a bit better . . . .
I just hope it woke her up to the real world around her. I'd have given her an 'earfull' into the bargain so I guess I'm not a good person either.
Jane, you didn't!? I so totally understand. This will be her someday, maybe... :sete_071: "oops, I forgot to look for moving objects". I just can't believe how unobservant preoccupied on the phone people have gotten. Is there any wonder at the fatalities happening all the time. They seem to have no clue that there are other people and moving objects such as cars and trucks all around them.
You guys are funny. Be patient, you just never know what is going on in someones life that makes them preoccupied. When my daughter was sick I drove some where and forgot how to get there in the middle of the trip. I would up in the wrong town. I know most of the time some of these people are on the phone when they shouldn't be but you don't know if she was talking to a doctor or something........ Have faith......and patience....
Barb, YOU are so kind. You have been through a lot and I think we don't think what others may be going through, because it doesn't affect us, but I know I can't do two things at once and both have my undivided attention. Phones and cars are not the best combination. I do understand the "how did I get here?" or not even remembering how I got to where I was going or the entire trip because it was "auto-pilot" the whole way. Did I stop for stop signs or traffic lights? I hope, because I didn't remember them. It is a good thing cell phones were not available then. Just not a good combination.
Well, I do understand that but I still try to be patient and not so critical of others. I do pull over to answer the phone for it's sensible even though it's not the law in my state. AND marlingardener????? You did GOOD for trying to wake her up with your horn. I would have said, "thank you", if I were that woman. You are a very good person..... , after all you're a Stewer........
Ah, Barb, I wish I could take credit for having an altruistic motive for blasting her out of her fog, but I was scared/angry and just let her have it to make myself feel better! You are the nice person. Don't argue, we all know it.
Miss Jane, I am much less kind than you. You just can't fix stupid. I let them have it with the air horn, close range!
I am much less kind as well...especially when it comes to distracted drivers. A car can be a murder weapon and when you are behind the wheel you need to have your full attention on what you are doing and your surroundings. That woman would have gotten more than a horn from me ...
Barb... thanks for reminding me that sometimes there is a GOOD reason someone is on the phone. But still... I would have done the same thing that Jane did... or worse. I'm not so good either.
I don't talk on cell phone when driving. And pushing a grocery cart. Been rear ended by people with both car and cart. And good friend In hospital long time in car accident.Older lady on cell phone.Ran Stop sign. And lady got ear full with grocery cart. All ready had knee brace on.
Marlin you probably saved her life. I have seen news reports where people even walk into open man hole covers and get really, really hurt. I probably would have said something to her besides blowing my horn. Like---walk much!
