Along with the crop of daylilies we bought last year came some guest plants. Vigorous because the daylilies had a regular regiment of fertilizer, these plants need an ID before they are uprooted and find themselves on the unwanted list, maybe even he compost pile.

First up is plant #1, it has not flowered yet

    Plant #2 has purple flowers

    Any guesses?

They both look like weeds I pull. If the top one has kind of a sticky leaf that catches to clothing quickly dispose of it. Can be quite invasive in my area. The purple flowered one isn't as "weedy" here and easily maintained and kept under control. Does it have a square stem? If so it isn't the plant I was thinking of and would most likely be in the mint family.

A weed is just a plant in the wrong location. I am sure one of our experts will give you their botanical names.

Top one looks like Galium Aparine; if it is it's difficult to eradicate....

The bottom plant looks like Lamium purpureum. I beleive that we just had an inquiry about this a couple of days ago.

Mate, you want to get that one out of your garden post haste.

The plant above, I am not sure about...tell me though, does this plant adhere to you easily?

I agree with Hank that the first one looks like Cleavers (Galium aparine) and the second one is Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum.)
Both are very invasive so I'd get them out of there before they spread.

The Cleavers aka Goosegrass aka Sticky Willy is an absolute terror. The seeds stick to animal coats and are terrible to get off. The only time I have ever seen a cat spitting was when one of ours sat and tried to clear them off his fur.

I concur... Sticky Willy. What a nuisance that is.
The second reminded me of Henbit.
    It's kind of a pretty weed. :stew2:

The second plant is definitely a weed that we have in our garden. The first one kind of looks like a lavender plant to me in the close up.

Both look like weeds I pull.

The first one is some sort of Galium species, and the second is definitely Purple Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum).

Interesting how we can all recognize weeds as weeds even if we do not know the names. I thought the 2nd was a weed form of lamium...looks as though it is. I know sticky willy, it is a terror but I am not sure photo #1 is that. Tell us Jerry, are the stems square & somewhat brittle?

The stems were square and now are very dead.
