:'( Well I think it has happened. I haven't seen a Humming Bird all week. They must have flown the coop so to speak. But this is really, really, early. I have always had hummers around until the middle of Oct. I guess with all the screwy weather we have had they figured it was time to leave. Or they know something else is on the way, earlier than normal. I won't say that cold four letter word. Makes me shiver just thinking about it. :stew1:

It's always sad to see our favourite birds leaving for pastures new isn't it? Strangely enough our swallows are still here. They're usually gone by now but, as the weather is warmer than it's been for a while, I think they've decided to stock up on all the food they can before their long journey.

Bip I would think that because you are further south of us that your Hummers are still hanging in there. To night we are suppose to have temps as low as 36 or lower. Burrrrrrr!

Eileen yes it is. I havent seen our swallows for at least 2wks or more. But for the last couple of days we have had about 8 Blue birds swooping around our pastures and garden area. They are so neat. But soon they will be gone also. There is always next years brood to look forward to. :stew1:

You are very lucky to have these gorgeous birds in your area, unfortunately I only enjoy them from photos :-D

This week will also be pretty chilly for us, its 58º right now  We actually have a frost advisory tonight!
I havent seen any adult males lately, so I wonder if they left already? I read that the males usually leave before the females...
oh well, Im going to leave my feeder up for a few weeks more I think.
Im looking forward to seeing titmouses (titmice?) and Juncos and Cardinals :)

I guess I need to get my feeders cleaned and hung out if they are headed this way. Sometimes they stay here in winter but mostly we see them in fall and spring. In Arizona we had them all winter and they would get really upset when they wanted to eat and the feeders were frozen. I'd have to go thaw them out so they would quit yelling at me.

Last year mine left on September 28. I saw them at my flowers and feeders on Sunday September 23 and yesterday no hummingbirds.

I plant annuals all over my vegetable garden. They loved my hummingbird vine, celosia, and red morning glories.

Ahhhh yes. We will miss all those summer birds. I will be taking my feeders in this week. Haven't seen a hummer for over 2wks now.

Theodoros yes that is to bad you do not have these neat little birds in your part of the world. But I bet you have some other really neat birds though.

Dooley good idea to get those feeders out and cleaned up. Our hummers should be there shortly as they left 2 wks ago now.

Donm that is a great idea.

I saw my last hummer about a week and a half ago. The nights are getting chilly, I think they have packed their bags. :-( I cleaned out the feeder and put it away for another season.
