I wasn`t sure if my white melons would reproduce so today I walked the garden to see if any had set fruit. I found a bunch of them! Had to take pics to show. These are small still and are lightening as they grow. I did not find them last year till they were almost ready to eat so I had no idea how they looked or grew when small. But here they are... I also took a pic of a regular cantaloupe to compare. Currently they are slightly larger than a tennis ball. First pic of regular cantaloupe is about same size I think .

I will have to look for the white ones at Whole Foods or Central Market, I have never seen one in the grocery. Are they as sweet as a good regular cantaloupe?

Congrats on the good crop, you must be doing some they really like.

Sorry, Toni, I don`t think you will find them there but if you do please tell me. These came from regular cantaloupe seed that I saved year before last. Then I used my seed to plant last year and one plant had two white melons. All the rest were regular cantaloupes. I saved the seed from those two and planted them this year to see if it was a fluke or if they indeed would reproduce white melons. And lo and behold,,,they did. This is an experiment in action. The two from last year were really good. Somewhat like a cantaloupe but milder and with sort of a honey flavor. Hard to explain. What amazed me was the keeping ability. I put it in tupperware in the fridge and it was crispy, not mushy like cantaloupe, for over a week. And its size was over 4 lbs. I will know more about it this year as I watch them grow.

LOL ! Jealous,,, Oh no !!
I honestly don`t know what I will do with them yet. I would love to find out how they came to be in my garden. I am the only garden for miles that has melons. It cannot be a cross,,I had nothing else remotely similar except watermelon and regular cantaloupe. These seed would be no good since I had regular cantaloupe growing along side these or at least I think they need to be isolated for true seed. I have the original seed in the freezer, so they should be good a while. One person suggested that I see if Texas A&M might be interested in finding out what they are. I just don`t know yet. Will see how they do this year since I have more than two and Hubby isn`t in the hospital I can keep a close check on them. One thing they are round and pretty much identical plant to plant. Thats about all I know so far. I will continue taking pics as they grow and post them here.
