My husband and I drove to Ft. Worth to see The Age of Picasso and Matisse exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum. The Kimbell always mounts great exhibits, and this was no exception. On loan from the Chicago Institute of Art, the pictures were magnificent, and the presentation stunning. I admit I don't get Cubism, but the paintings in the Surrealist, late Impressionist, and Fauve styles were amazing, and I learned a lot. I also came away with the distinct impression (pun, pun!) that Dali was seriously disturbed in his mind.
I saw an exhibition of Dali's work a few years ago and I certainly know what you mean by 'disturbed' mind. His melting clocks and weird elephants definitely make you think his take on life was a bit askew. However, I did thoroughly enjoy seeing them all. :-D
I keep thinking I need a dose of culture too. Then I remember that Canada Blooms is coming up soon and I forget all about it
I am glad you got to go see this Jane. I would probably look at it and start laughing and reveal just how ignorant I am on culture. I have never been able to "see" what is so special about anything other than what something is supposed to look like. Impressionists leave me scratching my head. I just don't "get it". I hope you enjoyed it though.
We live less than an hour away from the Kimbell and the other museums in Ft. Worth, then there is the Perot Museum in Dallas and other than once to the Cowgirl Museum and the Science Museum in Ft. Worth we haven't taken the time to visit any of them. I really liked the Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City and the Cowgirl Museum in Ft. Worth. Have you been to the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco....the state law enforcement agency NOT the baseball team. And the Dr. Pepper Museum in Waco too. Get some local culture there
Carolyn, I like the Impressionists because the paintings are slightly "romantic" in that the edges are blurred, the subjects contemporary and give a glimpse into the artists' and their friends' lives, and the colors aren't bad, either! "Culture" is very subjective, and I agree that some of it is more laughable than laudable! Toni, yes, we visited the Texas Ranger Museum. I especially liked the presentation pistols with the longhorns with red (ruby) eyes on the hilts. Glam and bam all in one spot! I don't drink Dr. Pepper, but we went to the museum. Well, it was less than impressive . . . .
I would have liked to have gone to that, MG. It has been ages since I have gone to view paintings and sculptures.
