Where do you keep all these inside your home? I was thinking about starting them in a similar manner, but I can't really find a place in my house that gets enough sunlight. Or do you have lighting for them?
Oh lovely, healthy babies. I hope they continue to grow well for you and that you have bumper crops from them all.
My goodness, you are going to have a bumper crop in your garden this year! Please tell us the four kinds of tomatoes you are starting. I've never tried starting onions from seed--I just buy the starts (they look like tiny green onions) and set them out. I must admit yours look a lot better than the ones I buy!
Thanks for the nice comments. I planted Polbig, Olpalka, Brandywine, and Large Barred Boar. I like to make my own tomato sauce and the Olpalkas are very large tomatoes grown for sauces but they also taste great fresh. I'm trying Polbig for the first time (odd name as they are small) this year as they are a very early tomato. I've only been seeding my onions for 2 years but they seem to be easy to start. Idaho has banned any imported onions sets or starts and sometimes they are hard to find. Mike built two portable light stands for me with 4 grow lights per stand plus I have 2 heat mats to help. I'll set up the second light stand today to start some annual and perennial flowers. The handiest things that I have found (at the dump, of all places) is 4 huge commercial baking pans. I use them under the flats so I don't have to worry about water damage.
Your seedlings are looking great. I started my onions from seed last week and they are starting to sprout already. I always have better results starting from seed than from the sets.
Those little dudes look great. You are well ahead of my plantlets here, by 1-2 weeks I estimate. When do you expect to be able to plant things outside where you live?
We will be planting the tomatoes out in the greenhouse the first of May. We will be able to provide extra heat if necessary . The onions will be planted in another two weeks and the broccoli will be set out at the same time. We plan on putting hoops over them so if it gets too cold we can provide covers for them.
