I need info on planting 4 O clock flowers.
When to plant, can they be started inside and transplanted or direct sow into soil for next year.

I soak mine over night and then just push them into the dirt, pretty low maintenance. I started mine a while ago because our growing season is so short. I don't know if you can start them indoors or not, don't know how well they transplant. Someone will be able to tell us though ;)

You can do either one. But they are such easy plants and low care, I would just stick them directly in the soil and keep damp till they sprout. They are good size plants so might be a good idea to wait and plant in spring. Most get 3 to 4 ft. tall and spread out.

NJ is a maybe for this being a perrenial flower for you.

It might be able to overwinter (if well mulched) and you may need to save seed & replant.

NH was too cold for it to overwinter.

Lots of colors, easy peasy planting to pot or feild.

Mildy invasive (because it broadcasts seeds) where it can overwinter.
