Yesterday I planted my 30ft row of green beans . We freeze them for winter provisions.
I love picking them small an (french ) types. Anyone else into green beans?

I love them in my Ham soup. I make it from a bone.

    Boners anyone?

I am just starting my first veggie garden. I can not find any green bean seeds or corn seeds. :( However, I have purchased so really need seeds that I have not seen before. I have a lemon cucumber and some for purple carrotts.

I grow beans every year, B. I like Runner Beans, Broad beans and french climbers.
I am hoping to do some planting in a week or two for setting out before the end of May.

I am still eating from last years' harvest. I freeze them in as well. I usually do not blanch them, but may blanch a few to see if that alters the flavour at all.

I just planted mine a couple of weeks ago :) Two plants on a teepee trellis. This is my third attempt because two times were unsuccesful. Now they are progressing beautifully with only a couple of leaves being scorched on extremely hot sun, I think.

I love eating them fresh :)

Green beans are my favorite vegetable and I eat a lot when picking them ;) and like putting them (fresh) in salads.

Sjoerd -- They can be frozen without first cooking/blanching them? I didn't realize that and have really enjoyed them frozen and wonder now if it was because of that.

The only type I have ever tried are bush beans but am thinking now maybe I should try some poles. :stew2:

We're growing beans this year, and my guess is we won't be cooking a single pod. I've got a couple of veggie wolves on the loose here, otherwise known as "daughters". :D

I plant purple beans, but it's too early here...the ground is still too cold.
Glenda, I'm sure it's not too late for you to plant beans. I'm glad you are feeling good today :)

    Horrible thought.

Will beans freeze if we get frost?

LilyJunkie--I have blanched beans and then frozen them in the past, AND simply frozen them without blanching... but for the last seven years I have only frozen all beans without blanching.
As I recall, the runners were ok being blanched prior to freezing and this year I am going to blanch some of runner beans again because I think that I am imaging that the beans in the last quarter of the year seem to have a noticably stronger "beany-flavour".

We'll see how it goes...I only have broad beans in the ground at the moment. They have flowers, so hopefully I can harvest the first mean in a few weeks if the weather warms up a bit.

Another bean fan here. :) I grow runners, soy, broad, french, all colours, shapes and sizes. Mine have started nicely, and will go out in a week or so...providing we don't get a frost.
