I planted a fall garden and the grasshoppers ate most of it. We do have fresh lettuce though. I picked some for dinner tomorrow. But, I was sitting here this afternoon and wondering if I should be doing something. The sun was shining and it was about 55-60 degrees. I had hoed up the beds last week so I went out and hoed them again and planted two rows of carrots (10 ft rows) and some spinach and kale and swiss chard. I watered the lettuce and the bushes and filled the birds water tub and bowls. It might be cloudy and rainy tomorrow but everything had a drink today. It might take things longer to get started at this time of the year but they did it last year so I thought I'd try it. Now, I'm off to make some supper. dooley
I want to plant something but can't bend down much.I'm home but very sore. You did something I envy you of.
What a shame about those grasshoppers,Dooley. Well, good luck with your second planting. Do you have some sort of gauze that you could cover those seed beds with to keep the 'hoppers off the seedlings when they come up? Keep us posted with the seeds' progress.
I bought some in the spring and covered my small fig trees as they chewed the leaves. Maybe if I see them eating my new plants I will go and get some more. It really makes me mad when those grasshoppers and black wooly caterpillars eat everything. dooley
