I wish I had thought of putting my camera in video mode. But I didn't so here are a few shots of one determined Fox Squirrel out foxing my bird feeder that is hanging from the eve's of my upper deck. It's about 5 ft. off of the deck and is really slippery because being made out of plastic. But that did not stop Houdini the squirrel from reaching his objective.

Now lets see. If I go this way then ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden )

Phew. I'm on the roof. Now what? ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden )

Tada! I do not know how he got in there. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden )

I could not believe my eye's as he swung over the side of the top of the feeder and sort of slid down the side and caught the lower tray on the feeder with his back feet. It all happened so fast I didn't get a picture.

 Then he just hoisted himself up and squeezed into the space between the feeding ports under the middle plastic roof. He had to lay down in order to eat. After he had his fill he just jumped onto the deck and was off in search of his next adventure. Next time I will have my camera in video mode to see if he can do it again.

Some folks say that animals are dumb - your squirrel certainly proves otherwise doesn't he?

Not having squirrels, I can certainly enjoy the antics of yours!
When you look up "devious" in the dictionary, there's a picture of a squirrel. :smt002

Jewell and Eileen that is certainly true.

Marlingardener glad you enjoy seeing our squirrel antics. Maybe I can send you two. That way you will have your own squirrels. They certainly are devious, in a smart sort of way. :stew1:

Was this the "squirrel-proof" feeder you showed us the other day? If so... I'd send these photos to the manufacturer. :D

I have a very persistent squirrel that has mastered getting up on the window ledge and then hurling it's little self onto the feeder about 6 feet away. He sometimes looks in the window first just to show off and be sure we know he is there, and is going to commit this unauthorized act.

Cherylad no this was not the squirrel proof one. It is the weather proof one I had gotten last year.

Kay-it is pretty amazing the lengths those squirrels will go to, to get at a free meal. You Tube has a lot of videos of squirrels going threw all kinds of antic's to get a peanut. One that is good is titled Smart squirrel. I would love to construct a squirrel maze just to see how long it takes them to figure it out. :stew1:

Tooty, were you offering to send me two squirrels, or was that a threat? :)
If two squirrels show up in the mail, I know where to send two mounds of fire ants. Don't worry, we have plenty and don't mind losing a few million.

Yikes fire ants. Do they go around burning up things? I think I will pass on those and just keep my squirrels. :D

Many years ago I watched a series on a PBS station about squirrels. The program shed light on the abilities of grey squirrels. Called Daylight Robbery 1 and Daylight Robbery 2. A challenging course was set up and the squirrels learned the ropes. Their success was rewarded with a tasty treat. The course was an amazing set of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The series was very entertaining. I could not locate the first series but Daylight Robbery 2 is available in four parts on U-Tube.

Thank you Jerry for the info. I also think I saw that special sometime ago. It was really good seeing them figure out the obstacle course. I will have to check it out on You Tube. :stew1:
