Out in east Texas between Paris (yes Texas) and Greenville are three Sunflower fields, I think they are Black Oil Sunflowers and the seed will be sold to the bird seed companies. The fields looked like they went on forever. Two of them were on the other side of the highway and I don't run fast enough to beat traffic, so these photos are of the one field on the side of the road we were driving on. This was looking straight across the field from beside the van...they sort of look like they are having trouble finding the sun's location in the sky, it had been very overcast until just before we stopped,so they probably were. Confused Sunflowers on an overcast day ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) So I took the next shot facing to my left so I could get their pretty faces in the photo too. Same field, different direction ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) There are two off in the distance that appear to be standing on tip-toe so they could get in the photo. Hi, Mom!! It's me your sun.
toni, That is soo cool. I have seen fields like that before and always enjoy them. I too would like to have a field like that.
Pretty... I never have luck with sunflowers, but i admire the field. I sometimes see some while driving in peoples backyards along fences. But never seen a sight like that before. I've seen corn fields and lots of citrus fields. And there's a strawberry farm where you pick your own down in Fort Pierce.
I've seen fields like this but not lately. I planted some "giant" sunflowers this year. Some giant, the tallest one is yet to get two foot tall. I even water them and they get morning sun. Last year, they never even came up. I wonder if something ate the seeds before they could grow? dooley
A whole field of sunshine - just lovely!! My dream would be to plant up a wildflower meadow to attract bees and butterflies as so many have been lost over here. Of course there'd be sunflowers amongst the others as their seed heads would also attract many species of birds. Now if only I did the lottery I might win and make my dream a reality.
I went to college right around that area... a "few" years ago. I don't remember seeing sunflower fields... just cotton. I bet that was a grand sight! And I love your comment about the one's on their tippy toes. I meant to plant some sunflowers this year... wonder if it's too late to start some?
