I think they are daffodils as I have posted some of the pics of the plant in the Plant ID forum and they suggested that it might be. I see a very big bud which looks like it will bloom in a day or two. The plant itself is less than 3" tall.I have read that if it flowers early, it will not be big and the plant will not grow any bigger. Is that true? Should I remove the bud? That would break my heart!! However I want the plant to do well.
I wouldn't remove the bud, I'd let it bloom if only to help ID the plant. Just my opinion, others might suggest otherwise.

Don't break the bud OR your heart! It could be a miniature variety of daff, and will come back stronger next year at any rate.
Leave the bud there, one bloom is all you get per season on each Daff. Also, do not cut down the leaves after the bloom has faded either, bulbs store energy for next years growth thru the leaves so they need to stay on until they have complete died back. There have been warm winters down here where the Daffs were up, bloomed and dead before the end of January. Mine are coming up but not a bud in sight yet while next door has a little group of 10 that I can see from the side window....two have bloomed, there are four buds about to open and I think I can see the other four with a bud starting to swell.
Do not remove the bud..........DO not touch the plant at all The daffodil has to have that bud on , till it is all bloomed and the flowers dry off.......Because that is how they store energy for next years blooming. The sun and air fertilize it . And after it is all dryed and turns brown then you can cut it back. Never remove it . Wheeeeeeeeeee
Where are you from Tina. It is not at all uncommon for daffodils to be blooming this time of the year. All of the above advice is very good. You can also sprinkle a little bone meal around the plant after it is finished blooming to help it grow stronger next year.
Mid-January I spotted my first open daffodil in a patch of waste ground on the local nature reserve. Rather bizarre to see it next to a fully flowering mahonia. Its this global warming, milder weather in the winter, Spring coming earlier, even the snow down here near Heathrow only lasted a day :-? Re-plant that poor daff asap :-D It may be a tete-a-tete variety, they're quite small
These are daffy's or Narsisus (sp)Not sure what I put there.I am waiting for them to open what ever they are .
