I thought this was a pumpkin plant,what is it?

I live in NH, and last year I noticed this plant growing by my steps I thought maybe it was a pumpkin plant, but those grow on the ground I could of swore last year it was on the ground and had a yellow flower on it, but this year it looks like this. We are in the middle of redoing our yard so that part of the yard isn't kept up well yet so it grows well on it's own with no tending to.

Looks like Phytolacca americana (American Pokeweed ) to me.

 

Well, it's definitely not a pumpkin plant. The leaves are wrong. You are right about pumpkin plants growing along the ground too. I'm sorry I don't know what it is but someone will know. dooley

 

I thought it might be pokeweed too.

 

I third Pokeweed, I let some grow so the birds can have the berries.
