Well, I got you to look, didn't I? I am sorry I didn't take the plunge in the frigid waters of Wisconsin like so many people are known to do around here but I took the plunge and bought an orchid. I was shopping at Home Depot and saw Orchids....I have wanted one for many years but I kept putting it off because I don't know a thing about them except that they are beautiful. They had purple ones and white ones and one that they called Baldan's Kaleidoscope 45706, I picked the Kaleidoscope.. Hopefully it will not die from being brought out of the store in frigid weather, I did wrap a few bags around it... The one I bought is known as a Phalaenopsis orchid. It requires bright indirect light, but avoid direct light. It needs to be watered only once a week and it should not stand in water. It needs to be fed every other week with a balanced water soluble fertilizer and to repot every one to two years. Sounds easy enough.... we will see... Please share your orchid pictures too...

What a gorgeous thing, Sherry. I could just look at that beauty for ages.
It looks and sounds like a good one to begin with.
I enjoy seeing people's orchids very much on here, so I'll bet you get alot of positive responses.
The colour tints are delecate, and the form is so attractive as well.
Congrats on your plunge. What a splash you have made on here!

Very nice choice Sherry. I have never had an orchid either. I was of the mind that they were too picky and hard to take care of. I might have to give an orchid a chance in my house also!! I probably would chose the orchid/lavender color, since it is my fav.

That is a beautiful orchid, you chose a good one. Does it have a fragrance?

Don't have any now, but I grew a couple when I lived in south Florida and loved them, but then anything would grow down there for me.

Congratulations on your new orchid. We've got a few too, three phalaenopsis, a couple of dendrobiums and... eh.. well. My memory is out of order at the moment.

    Here's our newest, a Dendrobium:

Those are beautiful! I'm almost ready to try another one, but I'm still a little scared LOL I've tried Orchid's twice now and the outcome was NOT good!

That is one beautiful Orchid. I too have tried my hand at raising them, they will survive under my watch, but never thrive to the point of blooming again. It's sad - they are so lovely. Good luck.

I love them too. There aren't many places in our area that sell them, though, so I haven't had one in the house for a number of years. It's beautiful.

Oh I'd much rather be shopping for beautiful orchids like yours than taking a plunge in the Wisconsin cold waters any day. Congratulations for keeping it alive so far Sherry. I have a feeling it likes living with you. :stew2:

OOOOhhh lovely Sherry and Droopy - those are gorgeous.

What a lovely way to take a plunge Sherry. I do not blame you one bit for taking the plunge I would probable do the same in your shoes.

I also took the plunge a while back before I even joined the Stew and was rewarded with this one.

I think they are Cymbidium - So far I have managed OK with them. I thought they they would take a lot of effort to cultivate, but it was not so bad.

Palm tree...I especially like the top one of yours...it is so big. I would like to get more but I only have a morning sun window where I could put them and if I would forget to tip the blinds it might get too much sun..The one I have is above the kitchen sink and does not give me much room. What do you do when they are not flowering? Do you just leave them in the same spot? Thank you for sharing.
