Remember my post about an encounter with a "Bee Hummer" I am so very wrong and I must a apologize to all those that I had mislead. My sister who is a avid birder and senior member of the Malaysian Nature Society Bird Group recently came for a visit and we discussed about my encounter with the "thing". She studied the photos and confirmed that it was a Hawk Moth. She said they do get calls about sighting of bee hummer but they always turn out to be hawk moth. She said that those birds that looks like humming bird here in this part of the world are not humming birds because humming birds do not exist here, they are Sunbirds. Once again I am so sorry to have doubted those of you who are right and mislead others. VERY SORRY
That is very interesting. There are no humming birds in your area. I like learning new things. Thank you.
No need to apologise KK. We all make mistakes. It's good to know that you have Hummingbird hawk moths visiting your garden. Many others have been fooled to into thinking that these insects are Hummingbirds.
First time I saw one I thought it was a hummingbird and spent an hour looking up different kinds of hummingbirds in bird identification books! I did learn a lot about hummingbirds . . . . Don't worry about the misidentification. These things happen, and we learn more from our mistakes than from success. You've helped educate a lot of us!
Thank you all for your understanding. After googling about those birds there are so much interesting facts about them and they sure got my head buzzing!
That helps make your days more interesting when you can check things out and see what they are. I love new bird sightings and the moths....I would sure miss the hummingbirds if I moved to your area, they are so fast and fun to watch....
