I went to pick my dad up to take him to a dr.s appt today and the Big Chippewa creek was iced over.   That, my friends, is how cold it is here. I have never seen and I don't think in the last century has it been iced over in November. I used to go ice skating on this creek ( I can't believe my mom let me do that) most years, but not until January. It is about 15 feet wide and usually only a couple feet deep in the winter time, but in the Spring it is the drainage for hundreds if not thousands of acres and may be spilling over its banks which are about 30 feet high and 40 feet wide at the ground level.

Now that is a scarey thought along with sweet memories.

Are you saying that the special place that has such fond memories to you as a child is iced over 2 or 3 months earlier this year than ever as a a child?

    WOW..

Yeah..uh-huh! I have never seen it iced over before Dec. I seriously was shocked when I saw that. But all these nights and days so cold and the Summer was hardly warm enough to be called Summer, it didn't have as many thermal units to cool off, I guess.

From what I've seen on the news today Carolyn I'm not surprised to read your post. Seems like the weather is throwing an early curve ball. Stay warm and safe!!

If you were living in Scotland I wouldn't think there was anything unusual about what you're experiencing Carolyn. However, we have mild conditions here for this time of year. It's 9C this morning which is almost unheard of. I hope this is an isolated incidence for you and that there'll be no more really low temperatures again for a while in your area.

It is so early to see the iced over waterways! Around here, especially in the countryside, there are not as many geese. They can't find the open water so they are heading further south.
Guess we ought to break out the ice skates early! ;)

Yup this fall weather has been really crazy. I feel for all of the people that are up to their arm pits in snow and are worrying about their roofs collapsing. Wow, I can't imagine that much snow.
Then it is suppose to start warming up and rain on all that snow. Yikes. I'll take some cold temps, wind, with very little snow. That is so manageable. Thank God. :stew1:
