Folks, I am now a member of the Womens Institute...oh didn't you hear, I have been given an extra couple of hours a day to fill by the government as they felt 24 just wasn't enough....:)...so I have a meeting in 2 weeks time and the theme for the little comp they run is anything heart shaped. What shall I do? Heart cookies decorated? KNitted heart shaped cushion? Fabric heart cushion? Heart shaped cake? The list goes on and on!! Any original ideas for me??

Good gracious Emma, as if you hadn't enough to do with your 24 hours :-D Some good ideas there but what about something in keeping with your occupation, such as something with flowers, obviously not fresh.

Is the 'comp they run' a place for the sale of handcrafted/made things?
I think GG has a good idea about flowers, can you find a heart shaped wreath form and cover it with red and pink artificial flowers, lace and ribbons?

Oooo, I like that idea a lot! It isn't a sale, it is just something they have whilst we are at the meetings, just a chance to show off everyones different ideas and handicrafts. I shall pop to the florists tomorrow and see if they do heart shaped wreaths.

I know Toni thinks I copy her (read her mind), but I was going to suggest a heart shaped arrangement as well. The florist should have a heart shaped form, but IF they don't, I would assume you have craft stores. They possibly would have one. That sounds like a gorgeous idea, with tiny ribbon, babys breath, etc. Be sure and take a picture, so we can enjoy it also.

The wreath idea sounds perfect and just the thing for the meeting. :-D Some florists have ready-made oasis (in various sizes) which include heart shapes. They're used to make wreaths, mobiles or strings of hearts for decorations. I'm sure if you asked nicely they would sell you one. I'll look forward to seeing what you make.

I did a whole quilt of hearts for my granddaughter. I guess you won't have time for that though. The wreath sounds nice. I had one made of grapevines with a big red bow for valentines last year. dooley

There are so many things to choose from..... I love the windchimes idea, but to be honest, wouldn't know where to start. The cupcake idea is a goodie, I was thinking similarly along the lines of buttery biscuits with hearts on them.....if I can get a wreath cheap enough, then that is an option....hmmmmm
