We have had to stop using the front door, as a momma bird, and maybe pappa too, have taken up residence above our front porch light. She is very timid, and flies away before I can get a good look at her. I have not been able to identify her. So I got a picture of the eggs. I tried sneaking up on her, but she always sees me coming. I'm not sneaky enough I guess, I've tried waiting nearby for her to return, but I think she is up in a nearby tree watching me. (I need to work on my sneaky) So rather than bother her any more, I will just leave them alone to tend to their family. Maybe when the little ones hatch, I can get a look when Mom & Dad feed them. Or, may be someone in the Stew will recognize the eggs !! Tom The nest is there on the front porch
Oh my, it looks like the sort of thing that a Wren might do. Though I do believe that our Carolina Wrens' eggs are lighter in color than those in your photo. Glendann is probably right about the Sparrows. We've had them (Wrens) nest in the darndest places, and they seem to love to inconvience homeowners. Our back porch door was off-limits to us for several weeks a few years back, a nest appeared in a small paper sack of pond supplies that was sitting on a shelf right beside that door. We got scolded severly if we forgot and came too close.
http://www.sialis.org/hospphotos.htm Here is info about the House Sparrow....it does look a bit like your nest....wow, there are a lot of eggs in there!
Are one of the eggs a different color? It looks like there's a light blue egg along with a few dark brown speckled eggs from here.
