Very fitting @Logan Don't keep a dog when you can bark for yourself. Quote I found this morning, I guess they all have an explanation, this goes back to 1583.... The earliest citation of 'don't keep a dog and bark yourself' that I can find is Brian Melbancke's novel Philotimus: the Warre Betwixt Nature and Fortune, 1583: "It is smal reason you should kepe a dog, and barke your selfe." Melbancke, whose name is a variant of the more common 'Milbank', used the name of Philotimus, a noted 4th century Greek physician, for the title of his work. Rather fittingly in the context of 'don't keep a dog...', Philotimus was a dogmatist, that is, a thinker who bases his philosophy on belief rather than evidence. As it turns out, Philotimus had little option but to choose dogmatism, as several of his beliefs, for example, his opinion that the heart and brain are useless organs, would be difficult to obtain evidence for. .back atcha...
I think I've mentioned this before, but maybe not on this board. One of the big stores I managed for a few years in a city north of Manchester had the admin office on the side of the building adjacent to a side street. It had floor to ceiling windows and you could see pedestrians walking past. There were five women who worked in this office all in their thirties and forties. I walked into the office one morning and just at that moment a young woman was walking past the window, as a comment on her appearance, one of the women said, "Don't you see some sights when you haven't got your gun?" It was the first time I'd heard that.
I had never heard of that before, but realised what it meant from your story..still looked it up though to be sure...

In For a Penny, In For a Pound This phrase means that if a person has started doing something, instead of stopping, they might as well see the whole thing through to its end.
If you don’t know where you are going, you will end up somewhere different! If it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger! One years seeding means seven years weeding! No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in! A lie has already gone round the world before truth has put its socks on! My personal favourite: Truth does not fear investigation.
