Finally, sorting through our holiday snaps and I thought I would share with you the squash collection at the huge veggie garden we visited. They brag in their literature that they cultivate over 200 varieties of squash...and here to tickle your tastebuds, are a few of them. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) These first 2 pictures are of Loofa's growing ready to use when scrubbing your back in the bath. It is suprising how many people think they are sea sponges. The children loved hunting them out, and we have decided that next year we will definately grow more varieties of squash on the allotment. Hope you enjoyed seeing them all.
Neither did I!! It must have been fascinating to wander around their gardens and see so many varieties.
Oh yes! I sure did. I try to grow a new variety (for me) every year along with the known good producers. I thik that I would have enjoyerd visiting this place VERRRRY much.
That must have been something to see. You are blessed to have children who care about gardening - mine could care less!
Oh, my! They're so decorative I'd probably struggle with the thought of eating them. Thanks for showing us a few. Now, where's the rest?
Jessica isn't into gardening, as is, she doesn't like to get her hands dirty, but she loves exploring gardens, and looking for the squashes was like looking for treasure. James is a little gardener, loves planting and picking and doesn't get bored. He is interested in the varieties and how they grow. I am very lucky. The thing is, what we didn't photograph was the masses of different varieties of tomatoes they had growing - I bet the same number of maters as squashes. It was an amazing garden, and lovely plump fruit for such a dry climate, but they have huge hoses on constantly watering. If only we could all do that.
