Which would it be? What is your favorite flowering plant - in terms of how showy it is, ease of growth and maintenance?
Tina, if I had room for only one flowering plant in my garden, I'd move to where I'd have more room! A rose--a fragrant, re-blooming rose, preferably in the apricot/yellow range. I adore roses and wouldn't want to live without them. (Notice I said them, indicating multiples!).
Lavender.....no, Pineapple Sage.....no, Iris....no, way, I'd have to move too!! But I might be able to do it if it was one plant per season with just a little overlap as one died off and the next one came into it's own. Spring would be Iris, Summer would be Hyacinth Bean Vine, Fall would be Orange Chrysanthmum, Winter would be bright red Dianthus.
I normally would not post here but I could never never pick one plant or flower to plant in a garden. It wouldn't be a garden them just a plant in the yard. I would have to die first before I could pick just one. I love love love so so many different plants and flowers. That's all I have to say on this subject. :-D
You guys are touchy The intent of my question is - I want to find out what kind of flowers I want to plant in my new garden to satisfy all the things one can love about flowering plants. I figured if I asked you all to pick one, I will get a pretty long list soon
It's so difficult to choose as I have so many favourites. I love my Magnolia with its white flowers that almost glow in the dark. Maybe it would be the one I'd choose but then there's ...... just so many others that I love just as much. I hope I never have to pick which one I'd keep in favour of all the rest.
Tina, never ask a person which child is their favorite! We all look on our plants as "children" and love them all. For your garden, plant flowers and shrubs in the colors you like; plant some for scent as well as color; and have spring-blooming, mid-summer flowers, and autumn color. Several that meet some of these standards have been mentioned, and I'm sure there will be others who chime in with their favorites. As an addendum to my rose anthem, I'd like to add rue, which has a blue-green foliage and is beloved by bees (when the little yellow flowers open) and by butterflies, as it serves as a host plant. Rue goes well with roses, too!
If I absolutely positively had to just have one I guess I'd go for a Hibiscus... preferably a tropical one... peachy or orange.
I have been sitting here rackin' my brain, thinking of all the flowers I love. Can't do it, Can't name just one....Well... I do have a Teasing Georgia David Austin Rose that is pretty lovely. It has pretty peachy blooms and smells mmmm good. But I do not want my other flowers to think I'm pickin Favs, cause I love em all!
A clematis from the Group 2 that bloom most of the summer (and can cover a large area) with a contrasting colored phlox for lots of scent and flowers all summer too. Can't imagine only one. Tomorrow I might give a different answer.
