Ike went north up through Indiana and Ill. We got the winds from it, but no rain. About 3 pm the winds started at 35 to 40 mph with gusts above 70 mph. A lot of my trees couldn't handle the gusts. To get totally cleaned up will be at least a week if not two. Here are a few pics of the damage.
Thankfully no trees came down on top of the house but it's a shame you had to lose the tops of those trees to the winds. Take care with the clean up.
Sorry you suffered a lose to Ike. He did enough damage in Texas. The sucker should have settled down before he got to you!
Wow! What a shame At least there is no structural damage. I figured Ike would have pooped out before he reached you. Good thing I'm not a meterologist Deanna :-D
I've also heard of others in indiana that have their yards flooded. So sorry you had winds damage those trees.
Geeez that storm just doesn't know when to go home does it! Sorry you had to have such a mess in your yard, but be thankful your buildings are all still in tact. What a mess.
I hope he blows himself out somewhere in the north sea. I'm just not ready for autumn storms yet. Your yard looks a mess, Capt. Good clean-up!
Sorry about your trees Capt. Just glad you home or other buildings weren't damaged. Droopy, never fear. Ike is nothing more than a heavy rain/wind storm now, once his wind speed drops below 20 miles per hour he will loose Tropical Depression classification. If he holds together long enough to hit the cold water of the north Atlantic then he will fall apart quickly. Hurricanes don't like cold, they need warm/hot water to survive.
Woeked all morning out cleaning up and am about 1/2 done. But haven't gotten to the worst part yet. Back to work.
Sorry about all the damage I have mixed emotions. I think I would rather have all that mess to clean up than what I got. My 4 acre field of veggies was flooded. :'( It's gone down alot, but still. Wont really know for days what kind of permanent damage there will be.
Ike came to visit us in Ontario last night too. I was awoken at exactly 11:39 by the strong winds and pounding rain. Ike's wrath lasted at least 4 hours. My son was terrified up in his room...he said the wind was blowing so hard that his walls were shaking. I found him curled up on the basement couch this morning! There was a lot less damage than I had expected here as no trees came down. A lot of branches and broken plants as well as our "stuff" blown all over the yard. It was scary and I was thinking about Glenda and how much worse it was there.
Two days of cleaning up the the yard and we are about 2/3rds done. So far we have hauled 18 trailer loads of leaves, limbs and tree trash to the burn pile. I have a 17 cuft. trailer that I use with the yard tractor. Haven't even started on the front yard yet, and that's the worst area. One think that saves some time is that once we get the big stuff picked up, I go over it with the mower and mulch it up. The bigger limbs I cut up into fire wood lengths and stack them to dry out for firewood for next winter.
There ya go Capt. thats good thinking! But dang, thats alot of burn pile. And thats just the back yard,,, North Sea!!!! ohhh no way! I will personally stand out there with a huge fan and try to blow it to the south. I'm not ready for those kinds of storms yet either.
