I am back home after 'fleeing' my mobile home. Stayed with a friend that has a brick house. We sat in her garage and watched Ike go by. Lots of debris, tree limbs, childrens toys, pieces of fencing. And saw several fences fall flat! Weather service said it was a Category 1 that hit Lufkin. One house had a huge tree limb sticking through the garage. We of course didn't have any power, but had done some good planning. She had her grill in the garage ...we had hamburgers, baked beans etc. It smelled so good. Even brought a couple of neighbors over to see where the good aroma was coming from! Anyway, God was good and neither one of us had any real damage. Just debris to be picked up. There are 8 houses in my mobile home community of 124 that lost power for only 20 minutes. Mine was one of them. I called my next door neighbor last night about 8:15 and when she answered, I said 'hallelujah' for I knew that my power was on. My house never looked so good as it did last night when I drove in the drive way. :-D Glenda called me yesterday to check on me. I am thankful for such good friends. Bless her heart, as far as I know she is still without power. Hope all the other Texans are OK. And Josephine can go to Mexico. :-x
Glad you are ok :-D Sounds like you had quite the party in the garage!! What an excellent idea your friend had bringing the grill inside! Glad you didn't have any damage. Deanna :-D
Hiya Gaylyn, glad to see you back with us. I spent a lot of time watching Ike pass over you and Glenda on the radar. The Dallas area ended up with some rain and wind. My yard got a whole 3/8ths of an inch but other places got quite a bit more. Some trees down on the east side of the county but we were too far west to have anything like that.
Hi there Gaylyn - lovely to hear from you and to know that everything is OK. We were really worried about you so it's good to know that you didn't have any damage to your home. :-D
Was wondering about you also. Glad to hear you went to a safe place to take cover. Good to hear no real damage came to your house. welcome back.
That is great news Gaylyn! I've been so worried about everyone after watching news coverage about Ike.
Glad to hear you rode it out so well, they'd been mentioning your town for awhile on the weather channel.
Ike went through west of us, over in Indiana and Ill. We got horrendous winds though. Winds were at 40 mph with gusts as high as 70 mph. My yard looks like a war zone. At least 3 trees with the tops out of them . Batchews of limbs down and the yard looks like someone ripped all the leaves off the trees and threw them in the yard. I have got some pictures of the damage and will post them tomorrow.
