Every year, the mice get up under the engine cover and chew all of the insulation off of the spark plug wire on the motor on my log splitter. And I have to spend a couple of hours taking the engine apart, fixing the cable and then working on the engine to get it to run. So this morning I get the splitter pulled out, and tow it around to the garage. I drain the old gas out of the gas tank, and put fresh gas in. I take the cover off the engine and there is no mouse damage! There isn't even any debris where they built nest. Closed it up and tried to start it. It started on the second pull! My wife said that didn't take long and I replied, Yep I'm done for the Day!
That must have come as a big relief CK. I hope you spent the unexpected two hours doing something you enjoyed. :-D
Did you thank the neighbor's cats that you have been feeding on your deck? They may have been grateful (a grateful cat=oxymoron) and scared away the mice. Whatever caused it, I'm glad the mice left your log-splitter alone and you didn't have to go through hours of repair.
The mice may have 'forgotten' where a good nesting site was located. Lets hope the next generations stay away from the log splitter. Happy log splitting!! 6 cords this year? Jerry
I have 3 cords left over from last year and haveordered 2 more from my log man. I have enough from storms etc this year for another 1 or 2 so maybe 7 total!
Captain will try and post pictures of the big tree we had taken down Tuesday.Enough fire wood next year. Dead limps this year. But seen all 3 guys running-my DH included. Rotten spot at very base of tree snakes coming out. Just small garter type.
Well, Capt, I am glad for you. Mice are so destructive. and costly! I had a little run in with a few the other day in my tool box in the shed... uh, 3 of them lost. .
I can picture a little family of mice with their backpacks trekking down the road to set up home in someone else's shed.
