For those of you who had been wandering why I disappeared for a while is because I had been busy running around getting my son settled in his first job after graduating as a Computer Engineer. The job is like two states away and he had to go for some kind of pre-employment training, then had to assist him to get a place to stay ... so is up down, up down more than 400 km each up, down trip!!! Now all of my children are in the labour force and we are now free to do or go wherever we want ... I think! Being a parent is a full time no retirement job and we really need a break. The last time we took a vacation is like more than 10 years ago and planning a vacation is our next project. At the moment we have 3 destinations in mind USA East side, Europe or Australia/New Zealand. Having not really been to these 3 destinations I would like some help in deciding where we should go for a month long vacation. Yes I would love to go to all these places but we can only do one destination at the moment. The travelling month is most probably in March/April. Upon arrival at the destination all means of transport should be on the ground so that we would be able to absorb as much as the sights as possible. The things we are looking for are ....hmmm... this is a tough one, ok interesting sights, food, culture and so on. So give me any kind of feed you have and it will be most appreciated. I'm getting excited at the thought of just have different things to see and experience each day. Yippee!!!! I am going to fly!!!
Oooooh, I know that wonderful feeling of freedom!!! Well, youngest daughter still lives at home for financial reasons but at least she drives, works and can cook for herself. We take off on trips a few times a year...mostly no longer than a week because of Randy's job but at least we can get away. Way too many places to visit in that area to name but you may find these sites interesting about what's happening in the New England area which includes...Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.... http://www.newenglandtravelplanner.com/ ... 03mar.html http://www.newenglandtravelplanner.com/ ... 04apr.html http://www.newenglandtravelplanner.com/index.html http://www.visitnewengland.com/ Then there is the rest of the eastern coast.... Darn, I wish you were coming to Texas! However, Texas in March and April can be pretty warm . . . . I would suggest waiting to visit the US east coast until you can come in May and June. In March and April you might encounter snow, and although it would be a novelty for you, and perhaps pretty, it's the devil to drive in. I lived in upstate New York for 25 years so I speak from sad experience. Europe, wait until you can tell how the economic situation is there. Australia/New Zealand has always sounded absolutely fascinating--the wildlife, the flora, and the people. Let us know what you decide, and we'll all be waiting for trip planning reports, travel reports, and lots and lots of photos!
Yeah, I forgot to mention that most of those places will be closed if there is ice/snow in the area and if there are storms like these past few years your vacation will be ruined. But planning for a late summer/early fall vacation on the east coast would be great trip.
WOW!!! That is great Toni, I'll be visiting all the sites that you posted .... New Jersey ... that is where the TV series "The Sopranos" was filmed right? This is one of my fanourite shows. I would like to try all the different kinds of pork from mthere! Marlingardener, I'll make a special side trip to visit you should I decide to come to the states. Sure would like to try a Texas BBQ!!! Once the destination is decided, I'll post it. :-D
What an exciting choice!! Planning a holiday can be so much fun. Do let us know where you decide to go won't you? Don't forget we want loads of photographs of the scenery, plants, wildlife ... well just about everything!!!
There are a lot of members here in Texas. If you decide to visit marlingardner let us know and we'll drop in for barbecue, too. dooley
Hi KK! Good to hear from you. What exciting news! I hope your trip is great no matter where you go. If you come to the U.S. I think you should keep driving till you hit Nebraska! Ha Ha I also would love to meet you
KK, my husband walked by and saw the "I'm going to FLY" heading of your post and said, "I sure hope he's going to get on a plane."
Whew!!! Toni I never knew there were so many interesting things in the east coast alone. Thanks for all those links. Eileen it is indeed fun but exhausting too! Thanks Donna S I will definitely be at your door step should I come to the USA. Would love meeting up with you too! Dooley that is a good idea :-D Thanks Kay, that sounds wonderful!!! :-D Marlingardener ... sure wish I can fly like those people in Chinese kung-fu movies haha!!! :-D Please stop over at my place if any you come this way, love to meet you all and we can have Becky's butter cake for lunch!!! Keep those recommendations coming in ..... looks like Europe and down south is rather quiet ...... hmmmm!!!
KK Ng sounds like you have quite a fun and busy time with all the planning on what to see and where to go. You will definitely have to keep in mind the weather as some of the others have said. Ice and snow are a real challenge to drive in. Even for those of us who have that type of experience it can be challenging to say the least. May would be a better month to vacation in. The Cherry tree would be blooming in Washington, D.C. I hear it's a beautiful sight. Oh well you have several months for all the plans to fall in place.
No matter what location you choose for your vacation, know that you have friends around the world all interested in you having a fantastic trip. Of course if your travels take you anywhere near a Stewbie you will create a minor earthquake of excitement. We will await your decision with anticipation. Jerry
