the rhubarb, asparagus, and peonies are just showing 'knuckles'. Prepared some beds for cabbage and other cole crops. How's everybody been? I'm older, fatter, balder, and less inclined to tolerate stupidity than ever before. Penny is now OCD with tennis balls and squirrels. She and Tink, both love to eat raw vegetables, right from the garden. Fencing going up in May. Tomato's, Peppers, and some herbs just potted on this past week. Bought an Earthway seeder at Rural King. My new favourite store. (just for my Canadian and British readers) Got it and a package of Malted Milk Balls for less than the sale price on Amazon. $90. Not to mention shipping. The Malted Milk Balls never made it to the house. 8)
So, where did you plant the malted milk balls? Glad to hear spring has finally arrived for you. We don't have a Rural King around here (perhaps it's a midwestern store chain?). Please post a picture of your Earthway seeder. I've never seen one, but anything that has the word "seed" in it is of interest!
Malted milk balls rarely, if ever, manage to reach their destination ... now I wonder why that is? I've never heard of Rural King I'm afraid but I am interested to see pictures of your Earthway feeder too. I hope your garden continues to grow healthily for you.
Here is a link to a photo, as I haven't mine assembled yet. http://www.earthway.com/products/garden ... den-seeder A brief explanation of what it is good for as well.
You bought a seeder to plant milk balls. What a clever Idea. After all they look like large seeds....maybe they are! The only reason they don't get planted is that they taste so good. Jerry
For the ultimate malted milk balls.... you HAVE to have Malteezers (from England). Oh wait... this is a gardening forum....
FBG, That is a great investment. It should last your lifetime. I LOVE my Earthway Seeder. We use two of them. I picked one of them up BRANDNEW at a garage sale for $10.00. WOHOO! My FIL has one that he bought 30 - 40 years ago and we still use it. We keep the plates in a tupperware cereal bowl with a lid on it. works well for a storage container. Last year we purchased a fertilizer attachment for the corn... Kevin does the work with that, but it really isn't what we need for that amount of corn we plant. I am not convinced that I would use it for a regular attachment in the garden for anything else. My advice...I don't think I would recommend one, either. I have a friend who has two of them (okay, he is an engineer) and bolted them together to make a double seeder so he can do two rows of corn at a time. did you plant those maltballs before you got to the house? how soon do you think they will grow you a new crop?
<<did you plant those maltballs before you got to the house? how soon do you think they will grow you a new crop? >> Planted them right in the belly! The new crop is gonna dunlop. It's dunlopping right over my belt.
