But at least we got a little bit of winter this month.
We had to go to Lowe's and Home Depot this afternoon for bits and pieces of a project in the kitchen.
Needless to say since both stores had boxes and boxes of packages of bulbs at the ready and racks filled with packets of seeds, I felt it was my duty to peruse the merchandise and...well...you know how it goes....I felt compelled to purchase some too. You know it's just something you have to do this time of the year!!!.

I now have seeds for 5 different Cosmos...Summer Sunshine Mix (all yellows, oranges and golds), Sensation White, Sensation Mix (Pinks, Reds and Whites), Pink Popsock and Double Take (A double blossom, white with pink edges)
And a Sweet Pea 'Moody Blue Mix'

    Bulbs...
6 summer blooming Daylily, mixed colors
3 late Spring blooming Tennessee Ostrich Ferns
    1 Elephant Ear 'Black Magic'
    1 Clematis 'Warsaw Nike'
    1 Clematis 'Ernest Markham'
    9 Hollyhock mixed colors

Guess I will still have to wait until mid-March to get them planted but I was afraid they would be sold out if I didn't buy them now.

Good move Toni--I have learned the hard way that if you don't do something when you thik about it, you may loose out later.
I have had Earnest Markham...had it for about three years--and then a mole got in the roots and it never recovered and eventually died. My particular one was quite red. Lovely, it was.

The photo of the E.Markham shows a very red bloom and the Warsaw Nike is a deep maroon color. They ought to be gorgeous climbing around on my green picket fence.

I believe that they will make a very moving colour presentation--those colours work well for fuchias, so your colour combination will just be on a grander scale. ;)

I'm looking forward to pics, of course.

I went outside today. It's been too long since I just walked around the yard. It's been rainy, cold and rainy again. It was supposed to be part sun and part clouds today. The sun came just in time to set.
Anyway, the bulbs I planted last month are starting to peep through the ground. The iris that Toni sent me are various heights with the tallest being about 8 inches. I didn't see much else coming up but my kale is looking good. We've eaten a lot of the lettuce but it's looking good, what's left that is. I found another packet of lettuce so may start some in the extra tub. Then, dr can move two tubs in and out when it gets too cold. I'm hoping the cold won't stay much longer. dooley

Ian and I went to my friends nursery at the week-end and came away with loads of specialised tulip, scented daffs and crocus bulbs. She always gives us a great discount, and free coffee and cake, so for nearly 100 bulbs I paid only £3.50 about $5.60.) Bargain!! :-D

Toni, all those plants sound great! In fact, a few of those are on MY wish list.
I think seed display's should start appearing around here soon...

I felt a little urge to visit a garden center this weekend too... wishful thinking on my part, no doubt. I didn't go but ifI had, I'm sure I'd have come away with some goodies like you did, Toni and Eileen. My yard sure is looking awful at the moment. It's hard to imagine it will be lovely again in a few months. Buying bulbs and things keeps hope alive!

I had to go into Lowe's yesterday... starting to shop around for a lawn mower. And like Toni, I was so tempted at the seed/bulb racks. I just had to pick out a few things. I got Day Lily & Asiatic Lily bulbs plus Aster & Sunflower seeds. I think there was one more seeds packet, but I just can't recall it now.

We were going to Lowe's this past weekend, but it was rainy and foggy, so we stayed at home. My husband came home yesterday with all the stuff on our list (bag of perlite, extra daylight bulbs for the grow-lights, etc.). Do you think perhaps he did that to keep me away from the garden center at Lowe's?
Toni, great finds, and you were right to get 'em while you could. They will thrive under your green thumb!
