Indian Horse Gram

    Dolichos biflorus!! Anyone know anything about this vine? Also known as yellow Hyacinth bean vine . A great friend gave me a dozen seeds, Just not sure about them. Any help would be great.

    Someone else asked about that plant a while back but I can't find the topic.
    They are related to Hyacinth Bean, both are native to India. The Hyacinth Bean is sometimes called Dolichos lablab. which would put them close relatives to the Dolichos biflorus you have I guess.

    Probably grow them the same way and since the Hyacinth Beans contain toxic levels of cyanogenic glucosides and the dry beans have to be cooked well with at least two changes of water in the cooking process, it could be that the Dolichos biflorus should be cooked the same way...if you choose to try them. ;)

    I have grown a Purple Hyacinth Bean Vine. It is a fast growing annual in zone 5, with pretty purple flowers (reminds me of sweet Pea) and it gets big bean pods in the fall.
