My aunt just gave me a baby mimosa tree, and I would love to be able to grow it for a couple of years. The problem is, I currently reside in a dorm room, and have nowhere outside that I could grow it, so I don't know if there is any way to keep a small one inside. I live in New Orleans, so air conditioning is pretty consistent. Also, I've read that they are fast-growing trees, so at what point would I have to give it away or move it outside?
Mimosas are pretty fast growing once established, and it all depends on the size of the pot and the size of your dorm room, how long you'll be able to keep it inside. 2 years and you'll probably be looking to remove it and get it planted, since most dorm rooms are more akin to closets than living spaces. LOL.
I have a mimosa tree in a pot but it's outside. It's growing in the shade of a tree so it could probably do okay in front of a window. I've had mine in a pot for three years now but it's a big plastic tub. It's about 30 inches tall now and about two feet across. Try it, if it gets too big you can always give it to someone who can plant it outside and start with another small one. dooley
