I'm not complaining, mind you--we have a heavy mist today, almost rain (hooray!) so I can't do the outside jobs I had planned. Instead, I'm having an inside day. Loaves of French bread are cooling on the counter; the cat's napping on the blanket at the foot of the bed; there is pulled pork in the slow cooker; and later I'll get started on my Christmas cards. Sometimes an inside day is a real pleasure. What do you do on your inside days?
Mostly my inside days are spent doing whatever comes to mind, Lately I have been cleaning out more stuff and making some lotions and potions, candles and soaps for holiday gifts. I am knitting a red and silver shawl for myself and have been going through the way too many gardening magazines I have collected this year to see what I want to keep and which ones will be taken to the senior living center where my Mom lives.
Good morning, and excuse me Marlingardener but what is 'pulled pork'?My imagination is going full speed! :-?
We are due to have some inside days according to the weathermap. I have baking to do, cards to write, sewing to do, tree to finish, lots of things. Probably baking if the daytime temps are in the 50's as it says or maybe 40's, too. Good think I like to bake. There is never an end to things to do and this computer forum on gardening is one of them. In winter there's always something going on even when it's cold and yucky outside. dooley
Ahhh, Chocolate, pulled pork is one of life's great gustatory delights! One takes a whole pork butt, rubs it with a mixture of herbs, spices, and sugar and lets it sit in a plastic bag refrigerated overnight. Then one rubs it again with the herb-spice-sugar mixture and lets it sit out for two hours. Then the pork goes into the slow cooker (or oven set at 225 degrees) for about six hours. When it starts to fall apart, it's done. Let it cool, and with your well-washed fingers you pull the meat apart into little bits. A nice barbecue sauce added when reheating, and you've got yourself a little bit of hog heaven! It can be served as a sandwich on a toasted bun, or piled on the plate with cole slaw and fries.
Ooh, pulled pork does sound delicious! Talking about 'inside' days, we have them here in my north-eastern corner of Oz during our Summers when the monsoonal wet season arrives. It's impossible to get out in the garden when the rain is bucketing down all day ... and I mean bucketing!!! On those days I spend time reading, watching movies, cooking and cleaning the house ... with the air-con on, of course!
Jane, thanks for the pulled pork instructions. I have had it but never cooked it. Now I need to find a recipe for the garlic sauce that Fuzzy's Tacos serves on their pulled pork grilled sandwiches and I will be in hog heaven times 2.
Inside days. Phooey! I don't like them! But, they do come in handy... If I'm stuck inside, I take that time to do house-cleaning. And my least favorite chore of all-time... dusting. Gives me shivers just thinking of it! :-D But we're due for a rainy day on Sunday, so I plan on making some pecan pralines since one of my brothers from California is visiting. I might even drag out the Christmas tree. Dusting. I'm feeling depressed already.
Inside day? Don't you mean inside season? I have a really clean house all winter...I take time and clean EVERYTHING... floors, walls, ceilings. Everything gets cleaned out, top to bottom. I don't like to do it, but its something that need to be done. For fun, I work on my family tree, plan my gardens, sort photos, spend time with my kids, and now I have a new addictive hobby...Pinterest!
