I thought I would add some basic instructions for making my door knob lamp in case any of you find some cool glass door knobs. These door knobs are the kind with holes through the middle like donuts. I believe they may be antiques, but they are old for sure. Whatever you choose to use has to have a hole through the middle though. http://suziscrafts.com/how-to-make-a-li ... ttle-lamp/ If you have to drill in your glass, this site has a great tutorial. I have not done this with my lamp, but I have an old wine bottle that I hope to make into a lamp some day. After I collected the door knobs that I wanted to use [I did get the idea when I saw them], and found a peiece suitable for a base, then I bought the lamp kit stuff-- tubing, socket and cord and glue. The base must have a hole through it also. That is why I was so tickled with that old ash tray that had a hole in it already. When I was ready, I laid it all out on my work surface, in this case my coffee table. [My kitchen table has two large computers, plus mine in the adjacent table... ] I played with the pieces up and down the tubing to see how I would like them, and arranged them bottom to top. On my lamp they are in the following order: base > large round knob > medium round knob > faceted knob > medium round knob > faceted knob > medium round knob > metal cap peice [I do not know what to call it], > fasten the socket on top of this. It took two pair of hands to get the bottom nut and the top socket assembly together. I glued each peice with the e6000, and let it dry part way before adding another piece. I also let the whole thing dry overnight BEFORE adding the bolts and cord and socket stuff. I did keep a piece of tubing inside the hole to keep it from shifting around while it dried. I did have some minor slippage, but corrected while it was still pliable. It might have been good to be more patient and take several days to finish my craft However, it turned out nicely. Follow the instructions for wiring the socket, which needs done when you assemble the electrical parts. When we had the electrical parts assembled, it was done. I added a light bulb and shade, and it works! I hope this helps you out Stratsmom... I will email you a picture if you like. Be back later.
