I was watering the SOUTH end of my garden today where I have the onions and watermelons. When I went out to check on the watering, the water was running a river out of a hole in the ground on the NORTH end of my garden. It is on a bit of a slant from with the highest part on the EAST and the lowest part on the WEST. I hope that makes sense? My son went out to see it with me. Both of us think there are mole tunnels underground out there. It also probably explains why I have IRISES growing in my one raised bed, and I have never planted irises there. The watermelons are about the size of golf and tennis balls so far, so likely the horse will get them for snacks. I do have bumper crops of zinnias, marigolds and cosmos though.
Weird indeed! Whether they're mole tunnels or not it's good news that you have iris growing in your raised bed because of them.
I really hope they do not expand enough to weaken the foundations of your home - As that would be very bad, so bad that I honestly don't even want to think about it...
AA, My first thought was 'busted plumbing!'... Hoping that was not the source of your newly found spring.. Hank
Did the water stop running on the North end of your garden when you shut the water off? If so then it is probably moles.
The water stopped running on the north end when I shut off the water. And there is no plumbing out there. I will move the irises to another flower bed. Tree roots are another problem that can mess up the foundations of one's home. I will have to do something about the elm tree/s next to my home sometime, but have no idea yet, other than cutting my lovely elms down. At the moment, I have no idea of how to fix it, or who can do it.
