An Invitation to View. Despite not having had any significant rain since early March, because of the heavy dews we get the grass still looks green, but the garden is really suffering from 2 hard winters and a Spring drought. Our wild life pond line has been punctured by a terrible grass/carex in so many places we have had to buy a new one. Bet it won't arrive till after it has rained! Enjoy the walk. That was Ben. He loves sitting on the swing seat and gently swinging. He will come and collect me from the garden and take me to the seat for a swing.
Your tree peonies are beautiful Eric as is the rest of your wonderful garden. I removed all the carex from our pond and have been very lucky as the liner hasn't been holed. We haven't had much rain here either and have to keep topping the water level up. Hopefully you'll get pond liner before the rains set in.
The Carex (name escapes me) was planted in the border alongside the pond. I broke a stainless steel spade cutting through the roots of it. What had filled the pond so there was very little room for water was Menyanthes trifoliata (Bog bean). Sadly in removing it I holed the liner myself in a few places. Just spent all morning digging a small trench round the outside so that the new liner can be buried. Not a five minute job I can tell you. I think we have about 8 Tree paeonies around the garden, but some do not seem to want to flower this year. The winter has taken a dreadful toll on my plants.
Great tour of your gardens. You have a ton of space... and ton's of color! Hope there's some rain for you soon. I can't imagine trying to water all of that.
Lovely photos. Your garden always impresses me, Palustris. Most of your May plants are our June and July plants. Your stonework looks good. I remember the photos from when you were working on it.

Hi Jerry, no that is a Butyl rubber liner which was supposed to last 35 years, but has been punctured by the roots of various things. Underneath it is a layer of sand. I don't think I have the energy to make a concrete based pond any more!
Hello Palustris, It is always so nice to see your garden/park. It is just amazing. I am wondering when your place goes into the Yellow Book. It really is quite a pleasure to see.
After allowing a coach party of friends round 2 years ago, the Yellow Book entry is a NEVER. Why? Well I was ill for three months afterwards with the stress of it, so I am not going to put myself through that again. Sorry, Anyone who wants to visit is most welcome, as long as they take it and us as they find it and us, warts and all.
The Yellow Book is a list of private gardens which are open to the public to raise funds for various charities.
