These are Irish birds that visit my garden,..the new visitors in the past few years is the "Great Spotted Woodpecker" who seems to have decided to live here.

    I didn't take these pictures,..from Google,.."Irish Garden Birds".

Being close to the river and on the edge of the countryside we get many more visitors to the garden that i can not identify.

Hi Philip, great finds. Do you have any sources / originating websites for the images? We should credit them if possible.

We seem to have most of the same birds visiting our gardens Philip. Although every species also lives here in Scotland I don't have Blackcaps, Redpolls, Song thrushes, Yellowhammers, Pied wagtails or Jays actually visiting my feeders. They are in the woods and fields in our village though. :-D
Erm by the way the photograph you posted of Jays is actually a picture of Waxwings. :p We have them visiting here during the winter months but they don't come into my garden.
Here's a photograph of a Jay I took on a Nature reserve in Fife.

Hi Eileen and Frank,..job done,..if one Googles "Irish Garden Birds",..they can be found there,..well spotted Eileen on my mistake with the Waxwing/Jay error,..there are times we get flocks of Waxwing in the area,..several hundred of them also Thrush like birds i think are Redwing,..not to forget our local Corncrake which nests a few hundred yards from the house,..in an area we call,..The Meadows,..farmers leave the middle section of the meadows last to harvest to protect them,..swans fly over the house very often and of course Terns are very local,..birds like Chit Chat do visit now and then when we have heavy frost.

great pictures to share, Philip. We have some of the same birds, but most I have not seen and most of the ones we have aren't called the same thing. Out robins don't look like yours. The starlings do. the waxwings...we have a cedar waxwing, but is mostly a buff colored and a lot more streamlined, yours look rather plump. our Jays are totally different looking, all blue and white, not a blue patch on its wing.. Just interesting to see them all.

Hi Carolyn,..i was sitting with a friend in Indiana and she said oh there is a Robin,..of course i couldn't see a Robin that we have here and kept asking where?,..she presumed i just couldn't see it,..boy was i surprised to find a bird that looked nothing like our robin.

It is interesting to compare say your Jay compared to ours,..certainly not look alike,.. :) .

There are a family of Jays nesting opposite my house and of course the chattering Magpie,..there is also a huge family of Crows about 50 yards from the house,..boy do they enjoy making noise.

From my garden i can hear the Swans answering one another and hear the flow of the river going over the Weir,..early morning flocks of Tern come down from the lake and hang about the Weir catching insects and small fish,..i hope to buy another camera with a good zoom,.. :)

Hi Connie,..oh oh that seed bill,..bird seed here is also very expensive and the birds scoff the seed very quickly.
