I would love to know how someone developed their passion for gardening. Was it something inside of you? Or was it started by someone special that influenced you? How and why? My father was a passionate backyard gardener, and with his gift, he was able to give back hundreds of rhododendron starts for school and church sales, healthy upbringing for his 5 children. I learned to be outside, enjoy being surrounded by the beauty of the earth, and that we can do a lot with just a little good work every day. Hoping to pass it on.
I believe if you look under the forum "gardening other" you will find a sticky topic that answers this question. dooley
Dooley, a lot of those sticky topics have endless posts to read, which I do not care for. I stop reading posts when they get very long, no matter what forum it is. Karrma, my favorite aunt used to garden in a very small city backyard. She had an apple tree, lots of flowers, strawberries, tomatoes, cantelopes, peppers, scarlet runner beans, and lots of things. She covered the strawberries to keep out turtles and birds. I think she even had a little bit of corn a few summers? She had a 50 gallon drum for her compost in one corner by the alley gate. We got to eat all of those goodies. The scarlet runner beans were always in the flower bed closest to the house, and she had them growing up the fence and some string to make shade for the dog house. The dog was never allowed in the yard part without supervision, and he knew better than to put one toe in her flower beds or make his potty in the yard. He had one area on cement where he was allowed to go, next to the trash can. My grandma grew all kinds of roses in that same back yard when my aunt was a girl. I guess my aunt had her own ideas of what to grow, because there were never any roses there when I was growing up, that was long after grandma was gone.
Karrma, when you click on a forum you will see topics at the top of each that say "sticky". These are generally topics that a lot of members have posted on or of general interest. You can post other places. I thought you might like to read what other people have posted. I wasn't trying to tell you what to post. dooley
Just scroll down the list of forums until you come to Gardening Other. Click on it. The first sticky topic is the one. It's " Why did you start gardening?" I think. It might be the only sticky topic under that forum. I do hope you find it. dooley
