Is this a baby oak tree? Wasn't sure bc it's growing in a cluster.

Yes it is an oak tree sapling - actually I think you have more than one growing there together.

Forgive all the seemingly silly questions, but do you think it's a black oak? Well, more than that I'm trying to learn whether or not it's a water oak.
    Thanks!

From what I can see of the individual leaf shape they are more like White Oak than Water Oak. Water Oak leaves are paddle shaped, White Oak leaves are lobed as yours appear to be. The leaves do resemble a Black Oak, could you take a photo of a single leaf for comparison?

If the tree has been growing for a while and possibly cut down by a lawn mower it could still be just one tree. Each time the tree is cut back multiple branches grow to replace the one that was cut, each one being very weak.

    Good eye, Toni.
I was thinking maybe she found an abandoned squirrel stockpile.

Here is a close up of the leaves and I pushed back the top so you could see the base from the ground. So possibly one tree?
