Is this a good time to fertilize? It's hot here in SE TX

I fed all of the plants with some 13-13-13 fertilizer granules about 2 months ago.
I'm thinking they could use something to help get them through the next couple of months when it will be our hottest and driest.
We have good chances of rain over the weekend, and I was wondering if now would be a good time to spread some (store-bought) compost around?

Cheryl, it's always a good time to spread some compost around. The nutrients in it are very mild, and the plants will use what they need.
I'd hold off on any actual fertilization until the fall burst of growth. Fertilizer encourages growth, and new tender growth now in Texas is called "fried greens"!

Thanks Jane! On one hand, I thought, poor things could probably use some food. On the other hand, I thought, if I feed them during the heat, they may use up too much energy trying to produce new growth and thus the blooms would suffer.
    I'll hold off.
