My asparagus that I planted parsley with throwing out new shoots in August. Does this happen for you lot too.
Ours does the same. We let them come up, throw out a bit of composted manure, and have a small fall crop of asparagus.
My asparagus patch is so dense, I can't get between any of the plants. They spill out onto the walkway. I think I planted them too closely.
Cayuga, do you eat any ? It seems eating would thin the crop. Our original Asparagus patch took several years to be called a patch. We were watering it with creek water and never ate it. Then we put out another patch, which took a few years to give enough to eat. The old patch has become a circle about 4 feet across and quite thick. We do eat a few stalks as we no longer use creek water. The newer bed may give us a good batch in 2021.
