No, this is not late-blight disease of potato. The small black spots could becaused by: 1)nutrient deficiency ( give plants a feed like a seaweed extract). 2) Alternaria early blight: not dependent on the wet conditions required by late blight. usually not worth trying to control 3) high concentrations of ozone in the air. Leaf damage can allow weak pathogens to attack. Late blight is now widespread in UK. you will know when you get it as leaves will be rotted within 3 or 4 days of you noticing infection. Good luck
Lukey, my sympathy. I feel so sad when any crop goes bad, or falls victim to critters and pests. We can do our best, but there are things beyond control.
Since you are in the UK and may have a problem with blight. Try this to prevent it, about a week before planting next time, mix a solution of betadine and a couple of gallons of water, drench the soil you are going to plant in with it, then let it dry till barely damp then dip the seed potatoes in the solution night before planting and the day of planting. Plant as usual, You can also use this as a spray antifungal. Add a bit of dog or cat flea spray or flea shampoo and it will take care of any bugs to may have while growing. Since blight is a fungal disease maybe this will prevent any major problems. Its safe to use this regularly.
