I read that letting your basil flower will negatively affect the taste of it. This one had purple flowers on it for quite some time before I pruned it. This is what it looked like pre-pruning.
    Thanks.

Pruning is the key to keeping it growing. keep the flowers pruned/pinched off. otherwise it will be making seeds and no leaves for you. Do you have this planted in a pot or in the ground? get it in the ground if possible. It will do much better.

It's in the ground, and seems pretty healthy. I guess my main concern was that I may have messed up the taste or anything else by procrastinating so long on my first pruning.

Not to worry MOFishin, the taste and flavor will remain.

By keeping the flowers pruned back the plant will force the growth into the leaves. The leaves are what you want rather than the flowers.
