All of my Beefsteak seedlings have damped off! The Amish Paste, open pollinated cherry and Roma, and the Opalka are just fine. All are in the same tray too.

Too late now to start seed. I'll just have to buy (ugh!) some slicer tomato plants this year.

That particular strain of Beefsteak seemed to have less disease resistance than some I have grown in the past. I don't think they were as productive either.

Does anyone know of a good strain? These came from Baker Creek.

As an aside, I wanted to do a bit of cultivating yesterday to prepare for pea's. Soil is much too wet still, and cold.

That's a shame! I don't think its too late to start more from seed. I don't usually start mine until the beginning of April, they go out to the garden by the end of May and I always get plenty of tomatoes. Ironically, my Beefsteak damped off last year too :(

Here are a few varieties you could think about John.

    Mater Sandwich
    Park's Whopper
    Park's Beefy boy
    Kellogg's Beefsteak.
Here the most popular beefsteak tomatoes are the Brandywine variety.
