It can't be Thanksgiving already, can it?

I was making a shopping list earlier this week when dr came and said the store had turkey for 27 cents a pound. Turkey? Do we need a turkey? There is just two of us and last year the neighbor carried dinner to us already cooked. I had to alter my list to include things for Thanksgiving dinner.
Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable and sweet potato pie. That's more than enough for the two of us.
I am still wondering how it can be time for Thanksgiving already. I lost most of the summer going for all those tests, tests and more tests and was just getting caught up. My fall garden is doing well though the carrots need thinned. The trees are losing their green leaves to orange and brown and some are red so I guess fall is really here. When the temps go down into the 30's I guess winter isn't too far away. Before I'm ready I know it will be Christmas.
I have another round of tests coming up in December so maybe Christmas will go the way of summer. I think I will try not to let that happen. I like Christmas and do a lot of decorating to make it Christmasy without snow. I'm not fond of snow at all.
Are you all ready for Thanksgiving? Are you having a big dinner, going to family or celebrating small as we are going to do?
I guess if it's that time of the year I'll be getting into the swing of things.

Dooley, Thanksgiving kind of snuck up on me, too. We aren't having turkey (although if I could find a 27 cents a pound turkey, I'd get two) but we are having pork tenderloin in claret sauce. Much more manageable for two people!
Enjoy preparing for Christmas--and please post some photos of your decorations (does Chance wear a bow?) to inspire those of us who are decorating challenged.

I will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year. The last several years we have gone to oldest daughter's and she did all the cooking. But this year she and her boys are starting over so we are breaking with the most recent tradition in hopes of creating new memories.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, green bean casserole (an oldie but a goodie), cornbread dressing and rolls.
Then there are the special foods for some of our more picky eaters.....youngest grandson doesn't eat most veggies but does like raw carrots....oldest grandson doesn't like any green veggie except chopped spinach straight out of the can....jellied cranberry sauce without the pulp because oldest daughter doesn't like the pulp....youngest grandson and I don't like pie crust so we have pumpkin custard....oldest grandson doesn't like sweets except chocolate so he will have brownies.

Haven't even done the grocery shopping but I am thinking sometimes between midnight and 3 a.m. on Tuesday morning will be a nice quiet time at the grocery store....I hope.

Guys, Even though I won't have my only child with my for the first time in 42 years, I am really really looking forward to having my sister and hubby at the dining room table this year. Thanks to all of you.

I have a very big festive meal that day.

We got our turkey at HEB in Bryan. It's a new store and giving a lot of bargains to get customers. Now, it's 24 cents until Thanksgiving.

This year the only thanksgiving I will get will be the plate of food the bf brings home from his familys dinner, because I HAVE TO WORK ALL FLIPPIN DAY! (sorry for the shouting, but it really annoys the heck outta me!) And I do mean all day...both jobs have me scheduled, 7-3 then 4-9 *sigh*

Kroger's here also have turkeys for 24 cents/lb.
I'll be going to our smaller local grocery store tomorrow and see what kind of deals they have.
Hubby doesn't like turkey very much, but I love it!
So this year, whether he likes it or not, I'm either going to put a turkey in the smoker... or get my cousin to "cajun-fry" it. I'm planning on making cornbread dressing, candied yams and green bean casserole. And pecan pie for dessert (from our homegrown pecans).
Then I'm really looking forward to leftovers.... YUM! I want lots of sandwiches. Then green-chile turkey enchiladas. And if there's anything left worth making soup out of, I want that too! :-D
Or... I could just go over to my brother's since his wife makes a BIG meal!
    :D
