This message should be shown to all potential puppy owners, not just at Christmas time. If it saves just one dog's life then it has done its job is done.

    Christmas pup....
The children wake on Christmas day
Then run to wake their parents up
The noise and happy laughter prove
That Santa Claus has left a pup

When he sits down upon the mat
They put on him a paper hat
He runs and tries to catch his tail
The children shriek and laugh and wail

With shiny nose and head on paws
The little dog from Santa Claus
Curls up asleep upon the mat
At last some peace for tabby cat

The days of bliss roll on and on
Till all the puppy fat has gone

    Another Christmas comes around
Once more the children's laughter sound
    Other toys around the fire
Dog is left of him they tire

"Get out the way you great big brute
You're standing on my brand new flute"
He tries to join in all their fun
"Get off your're standing on my gun"

With head hung low and tail on legs
He slinks upstairs to lie by beds
    Discarded like the older toys
This Christmas there will be no joys

    Christmas comes then Christmas goes
    Sunshine soon replaces snow
    Brochures out thought fly away
    Where to go on holiday

    The Costa Brava? Ballyhog?
Hey what do we do with the dog?

    Now a problem has arose
On golden paws he lays his nose
His big brown eyes shine in the light
"I'll take him for a drive tonight"

After tea they take the lead
"Let me go too" his eyes do plead
"Come on Butch"he jumps with glee
"He's going out and taking me!"

With wagging tail and running feet
He jumps into the cars back seat
To the park he wants to go
He wonders does his master know

Butch bumps his nose on window pane
The car has stopped in quiet lane
The dog jumps out and sniffs around
    Then he hears familiar sound

His masters starting up once more
He runs and scratches on the door

    Left alone in quiet lane
Paws bleeding body racked with pain
The dog has run four days or more
    Looking for his masters door

    No familiar sight or sound
He lays exhausted on the ground

    "Would he do it?
    Could it be?
    He's driven off
    Abandoned me?"

At last he wakes and gives a moan
Through bars he sees the stray dogs home
To be his home for just one week
If he's not claimed he's put to sleep

A week goes by,no word at all
They lead him down the whitewashed hall
What did he do,what was his crime
That he was born at Christmas time

Our local shelter has a policy of not allowing pups or kittens to be adopted during the month of December. Of course, parents will still go to a breeder to get a pet, but if they pay big dollars, they are less likely to get a pet on impulse.
Shortly after Easter we are always offered chicks that were bought for children. Why that holiday is associated with poultry torture is beyond me.

Wow ... People buy CHICKS for children for Easter??? I have never heard of this, but I think those parents are clearly lacking common sense.

My youngest works at PetSmart, a local pet supply shop, they sell fish but no other pets. One of her customers is a Vet tech and told her earlier this month that November and December were the busiest times of the year for putting down dogs. People going to visit family and they decide to put the dog down since it might die while they are gone...they are buying the kids a puppy and they are afraid the dog they have might not get along with it and many more asinine reasons.
