I took a walk around the garden today and was amazed to see that my snowdrops, crocus and even daffodils are sprouting!! If they keep growing at this rate I'll have spring flowers in January - mid winter here. Has anyone else seen signs of an early spring?

My narcissus have always come up near the end of Nov and we have a beautiful display by Christmas or New Year.

My bulbs usually start peeking out around New Year's here. At the moment, they are still buried under the snow we had over a week ago. It is up in the 40s today and beginning to melt.

Some people are claiming we will have another winter storm this weekend, but the only reports I have seen are calling for mere rain. I think they are just panicky because it is December.

Cheryl, you will find that the Dutch Iris start showing up in Fall every year, mine have shown up by the end of October for the 15 years I have had them. They stay green through what ever Winter weather you have and continue to grow when it goes away. Mine made it through the ice storm we had week before last and even grown a little since then.

Winter/spring flowers I have above ground now are dutch iris, Forget-me-not, Dipsacus and muscari...and that's all. However, I have next years' growth seen at the base of a plant or two: Sedum, Knautia.

All of my daffodils have been up for several weeks and are about mid-calf high. They won't bloom until about February or March though.
    I still have pansies blooming.

Here in Ontario we are in the deep freeze. Yesterdays HIGH was -17°C (1.4°F). Luckily there is a nice cover of snow on the gardens, so my plants are insulated, but not growing. Winter doesn't officially start for another 4 days
