feel like Christmas! We had a few snow flurries this morning and are supposed to get a few more tonight. I haven't mounted the snow blower on the tractor yet, will do that this next week. I am getting ready for Thanksgiving though. We bought a fres 12 pound turkey the other day. Since that's way too much for the 3 of us, I cut it in half. Will roast 1/2 for Thanksgiving and 1/2 for Christmas. I also baked a pumpkin pie. But it is so good, it will be long gone by Thanksgiving!
I bought a big turkey day before yesterday as I will have lots of people here.I wanted a ham but I'm the only one that likes ham so instead I will have a big roast.I will have pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie pecan pie maybe but for sure 3 of my pineapple dream pies.Those are eaten by all.I always have to make sweet pea salad. Hey!!!! just hit me I don't have rush this year and head for work. I will enjoy that.
I've got most of my pressies already as I buy them throughout the year and I've made my Chrissy cards. Not much else left to do when the time comes except post the cards, decorate the house and cook the meal. Our weather is very cold but there's no sign of snow just yet although it's only a matter of time until the white stuff appears.
Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week already! We usually put the tree up a week or so after that. And I've not even begun to shop for Christmas. Occassionally it'll cross my mind, but I want to get people things they want, and often times if someone wants something bad enough, they'll buy it themselves. So I wait until Christmas is more near, then find out what it is they really want at that time, so I'm sure they'll like it, and not have already gotten it!
We are expecting our first hit of winter in the next 24 hours...up to 30 cm (12 inches)of snow in some areas. I'm NOT looking forward to it! I have picked up 1 Christmas present so far. My daughters birthday is on the 22nd of November so I'll start some serious shopping after that.
That is good going Eileen. I am in your boat as well - got all pressies wrapped already. Unfortunately I cannot finish shopping the food stuffs - as I need them fresh (Dessert is always my contribution to Christmas lunch) - stuff like trifle which is a favourite in most households over the christmas holidays. We have lunch at my mother's place and each of us siblings usually contribute to the edibles. In a way that is good since I first need to get over my triathlon hurdle before I can concentrate on food again. Gosh I am excited.
My son and two grandsons are coming over, and my fiance's best friend is coming in from SC. I do not know if my youngest son has to work, but my daughter-in law has to work until 3 PM. I may enlist my oldest son to assist me with the cooking as I am still nursing my back and shoulder blade from last Wednesday.
Biita, too funny! when my son was little there was a fishing hole nearby where he and DH would go every year. They would freeze up the biggest trout and we would fix that up for a true Northwest Thanksgiving (wild turkeys don't live around here!) We have cranberry bogs, too, so that was allowed. 'Fraid the boy doesn't have a Norman Rockwell image of a traditional thanksgiving, but for the first time ever we pursuaded my mom to join us, so we are going the sky-high-carbs-and-gravy route. And gotta have those olives, big enough to fit on a finger or it just aint right
Yeppers CritterPainter, i introduced Turkeyday minus the turkey to my new inlaws,, an they love it, an wanted another one the following yr. this year as well, we don't have cranberries up here on the island so i have to use something else. as far as pumpkin goes, i can't even get a can of the stuff. (sigh) but thats okay so i improvise,, an i mean improvise,, in another post called traditional or alternative i posted a story of how i improvised,,,lol,, dang we had a good time dinner an every dinner for holidays after that. lol.
I am being very lazy this year, and am not making my mom's homemade cornbread dressing, and my desserts are frozen. I am having a house full of company, and am having a few more people now, so I am keeping things simple as I can. Marton gets a turkey from work as a holiday bonus. I like your idea of cutting it in half, Capt, as there are just 2 of us. But they're given out frozen. I dont think a chainsaw is proper cuttlery for a turkey.
Well, Monday I mounted the 45 inch wide snowblower on the tractor, and it has been in the mid 60's ever since! Last year I think I only had to use it twice in the lane. So even if I don't have to use it this year, my lane will still be free of snow! They say a few rain showers turning to snow showers for Thurs. and Fri.
