Summer that is. My tomato plants were done for, so I picked the ones of any size to them that had started to turn and pulled the plants. Even watering them every day hasn't helped. I used the last of the rainwater from the water barrels and gave most of the plants a good long drink and put the water barrels away for the winter. Got a bunch of fall stuff done today. I can't beleive how fast this past summer went by. Seems like it ought to be July and here it is almost mid-Sept.

I hate to admit it, but I think summer is over here too. All the vines have died off and I spent the morning picking squash and Jack-Be-Littles. I picked the last of the apples, burnt some brush and picked more tomato's which are almost finished. I still have a few beans and Hubbard Squash but that's about it. It was a chilly 8°C here this morning and the high only hit 21°C for a short time. I can't believe it's over either!

It went so quickly that I almost want to say, "What summer"!?
We had a short string of exceedingly hot days, but that was over in no time...then came the rain, followed by markedly cooler days and nights.
I have noticed other signs in the garden of this abbreviated (and late) summer growing season.
In fact each season for the past three ort dour has been markedly different that the one preceeding it. This has been the most odd for me here. I wonder what next year will bring.

I still have a ways to go before I get as deeply into the winterizing mode as you are, with the rain barrels, etc....but I'm getting there quicker than I want to.

I am taking another week off the first week in oktober and it is meant to be for completing the winterizing process. We shall see how that goes.

I'll gladly send anyone who wants a couple more weeks of summer (days in the high 90's, nights in the high 70's, and plenty of humidity). We are planting our fall garden now, hoping for more rain--thank you tropical storm Hermine for 4" of needed rain--and cooler temperatures. It's sad when a 6" broccoli plant tries to bolt because of the heat!

Looong vacation Netty. Been in South East Asia since March. Hard to leave when the food is so good! I hope KK chimes in here. He can tell us the pros/cons of gardening in a year round summer. When it rains here, it rains heavy.

Time flies Capt. I saw reports of Christmas shopping on a news site recently.

Frank, here locally, they are heavy into Halloween now that back to school shopping is over. I have seen a few things for Thanksgiving which is late Nov. And stores are offering layaway for Christmas shoppers. But haven't seen anything specifically for Christmas in the stores yet.

I was just looking at my veggie garden today and thinking that soon we will get out first frost and it will all be over. But for now it is still going. The tomatoes are rippening pretty fast right now with a nice bowl full about daily. An so many green ones i dont know they will all have time to rippen before the frost comes. Peppers are doing really good right now also and I am tempted to dig a couple up and see if I can raise them in the house this winter. I was looking at the spagetti squash today and just hoping that the weather holds out another 3-4 weeks at least so I will get at least a couple off it. There is one nice big one out there b it it is still green and needs to yellow up..and ther is a couple smaller ones. I got these started way to late this year bt it was a first so didnt really know what I was doing. Summer sure did zoom by but in the middle of the 90s and 105 weather i was sure wishing for fall LOL.
