I have been having some problems with my hearing. Mostly highpitched soundsand low pitched sound. So yesterday I went to The local VA clinic for a hearing test. And I was right. My high pitch was almost non existant and the low pitch was almost the same. They ordered me a pair of digital over the ear hearing aids. The main part of it hides behind the ear and an almost invisible tube goes into the ear itself. I will get them in 3 weeks. The reason I went to VA is that Medicare won't cover hearing aids. My brother got a pair just like these and they cost him $6000.My cost? $50 copay forthe hearing test.
$6,000?! that's highway robbery! i would think that hearing aids would be a no brainer for senior citizens' needs through medicare. i have 5 more years till i can get medicare, so don't know what they cover...yet... hubby has been treated by the VA also. they take good care of him.
Good luck with your new hearing aid. My mother-in-law has one and it's barely visible. She really likes it, since she can now hear properly again.
I have Care Improvement Plus and Medicaid. It is a good policy for Dibetics, C.O.P.D.and a few other diseases I forget all of them.I need hearing aids too.
I'm so glad you went for the hearing test and will soon be fitted with the aids. I've seen people here with them and they are almost invisible. :-D
Bunkie, my brother got his from Beltone and I imagine that he paid a good deal of that for the name brand. I don't know what brand mine will be. And I don't really care as long as they work properly. I can't hardly wait until I get mine. Of course I will still have selective hearing when my wife is hollering at me.
Good for you Capt. I can relate to your hearing issues as I've lost the hearing completely in my right ear beginning when I was about 20. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of thing that can be corrected with a hearing aid... It can be frustrating and kind of isolating in certain situations -- but helpful in others. I used to sail on a 42 ft sailboat with a group of 5 other people and 3 of them snored LOUDLY... I put my "good" ear into the pillow and slept just fine! Good luck with your devices -- I am really excited for you!
Sorry to hear about your hearing....I had some fluid in my ear for over 5 months and it finally cleared and I can hear decent again....that is a lot of money for hearing aids, I like what you paid...
