Maybe it is the season for mushrooms. The lowly mushrooms are not high on the list of garden pix, so I decided to take a few shots of what is growing around the yard. I had some black ones earlier in the season but I didn't take pictures....Bummer. http://www.gardenstew.com/plantstew/alb ... r_id=10953 Jerry
A nice selection you have there Jerry. I think the last one was caught just as it was releasing its spores - congratulations.
Great selection Jerry,..some are so colourful,..mushrooms make my mouth water,..well captured,..oh i like the funny comment in your album,.."Finicky squirrel"lol.
I saw a really different one when i walked the dog yesterday. I'll try to remember my camera tomorrow. Lots of unusual ones for this time of the year.
Very interesting and well taken pictures Jerry! I really find the red colored one most fascinating. Wonder what sort of a chemical reaction gives it that color (as Mushrooms don't have anything like chlorophyll in them). The Mushrooms I've got growing in my garden these days are all white or a very pale yellow. I have in my life seen a brown one that had little white spots on it - But I have never seen a red/orange colored one before.
There are a lot of different mushrooms in the back yard this time of year especially right after a rain. They do make for interesting photographs. The orange ones, Cantharellus cibarius, are the most colorful. Usually bright yellow to orange they are found from June to September under hardwood trees, especially oak. Jerry
But how do we find out which ones are poisonous, and which ones are alright? No, I am not at all interested in eating them (even if I knew that they were safe to eat, I still wouldn't like to take the chance) - I just worry a lot about the stray cats, and some crows trying to nibble on them...
