I water my lilacs and roses every couple of days and feed them lots of nice plant food. I get some nice roses and a few lilacs. BUT, no one has lived in that trailer across the street since 2001. The lilac bushes are huge and bloomed weeks before mine. The rose bush is loaded with pink roses. No one waters them, no one feeds them. It's not fair. Dooley

Maybe some plants just thrive on neglaect!!

I have a 'Bear's Breeches' (Acanthus mollis) that a friend gave me. I watered it, gave it some nice well-rotted compost along with some mole-hill top soil (said to be THE best)and lots of attention. The stems started to turn black and the leaves drooped. I moved the pot to the back of the garden a few weeks ago and just left it there thinking I'd killed it. Would you believe it's growing strong and healthy now?

Btw I'd sneak over there and have myself some free cuttings if I were you Dooley. ;) ;)

Since no one lives there I think I could probably go and take all the cuts I wanted. Do roses grow from cuts? I've layered roses to make new plants. You lay the branch down and cover it with soil and water it and then when it grows new roots you can move it. Maybe I should just go pick the roses. Dooley

It is probably a matter of to much care causeing shallow roots. Those with out the care devlope deeper roots to get to moisture and food deeper resulting in a much stronger plant.

:-? Yes stealing cuttins does make the plant gods :scheming: very upset too. :?: Surely some one owns the place you can ask for cuttings?

    :D Al
