It's officially spring in Mayer. The vultures are back. I spotted one a few days ago, but today they are back full force. They come every year in April and leave again in November. They winter in Mexico. They come back in the spring with cases of Corona beer. That last line belongs to DR. Dooley

Yep! They are real vultures. They come back to the same area every year like the swallows. There must be about 50 of them. They are really ugly up close. They are beautiful when you watch them soaring with the wind. Even Chance sits and watches them. Dooley

GOODNESS!!! Do you happen to know what brings them to your areas? Do they come into your yards?

I was kind of wondering that too - are they preying on little critters in your area? Do they nest nearby?

My yard is filled with little birds of various types, the only large ones being bluejays and woodpeckers. I can't imagine adding vultures to that mix!

The vultures come here year after year after year. It's their area. They were probably coming here before anyone lived here. We're the outsiders. They don't prey on anything. They eat carrion, garbage. They don't bother people or pets or anything live. But, they are beautiful to watch. They soar on the thermal's. You see them occasionally on the ground if there is something dead on the ground. Otherwise they roost in tall trees and fly around. They have a keen sense of smell and great eyesight. They can spot their meal miles away from the heights they soar. Dooley
